Animation Cel

From the Plausible Impossible segment
of "The Wonderful World of Color"

The character is painted on clear celluloid. The lines are traced onto the front side of the cel, and the colors are painted in a smooth coat on the back side, eliminating any brush strokes. The painted cel is then overlaid on the background painting and photographed to form a single frame of an animated film.
