Recording Pioneers Vol 1! The first decades of the 20th century marked the dawn of popular recorded music, and the result was a flood of great tunes. Today, only antique phonograph collectors are familiar with the rags, cakewalks and marches that characterized this forgotten age. With this new CD, you can find out what all the shouting was about too! For more info and MP3 sample downloads, see the Recording Pioneers page.
Bruno Walter / VPO Fate rarely allows us the luxury of being able to witness significant moments in history. But sound recordings have on occasion captured moments of great importance. Such is the case of Bruno Walter and the Vienna Philharmonic's recording of Gustav Mahler's 9th Symphony. For more info and MP3 sample downloads, see the Mahler's 9th page.
A big part of my work has been researching digital restoration techniques that do not compromise the sound of the original recording in any way. The restoration of these records takes long hours of painstaking work, but I feel the results are well worth the effort. My goal is to produce truthful sound, faithful to the original artist's intent. Sign up for the VIP Records Email List To subscribe, send a message to... recordslist@vintageip.com
It's gratifying when I receive feedback from customers who recognize the difference between my CDs and commercial reissues. I recently received several in-depth reviews from a very knowledgeable gentleman who purchased several of my classical and opera CDs. I think you'll find his comments very interesting. See his wonderful reviews of...
You probably don't know this, but these particular recordings were prohibited in the Second World War here in the Netherlands. All British and American music was prohibited by the Germans. Even Classical music from Jewish composers (e.g. Offenbach) was prohibited to have or even to listen to. If caught by the Germans one could risk his life for that. People were sent to labour camps in Germany (e.g. Krupps) or were held in prison. You didn't need to be Jewish to get imprisoned or killed. My father lived for several years in the Anne Frankhouse (Prinsengracht 263 Amsterdam) just before the war started. By the end of the war (1944), he was hungry all the time and there was nothing at all in Amsterdam... no food, no clothing, no shoes, no coals, no nothing. They were eating tulip bulbs because there was nothing else to eat. These records from the world beyond the Nazis were very valuable to my father. He listened in secrecy with friends to the music of Joe Daniels from England and Fats Waller from the United States. That's why these recordings mean so much to him. He will be in tears when he hears these CDs." --RB, the Netherlands Below is a listing of all currently available titles.
