I'm a record collector who loves great music, just like you. But I have been frustrated, because a lot of the music I enjoy is either unavailable on CD, or remastered to the point of lifelessness. This spurred me to begin collecting and restoring antique 78rpm records, and I am proud to be able to share some of my collection with you.A big part of my work has been researching digital restoration techniques that do not compromise the sound of the original recording in any way. The restoration of these records takes long hours of painstaking work, but I feel the results are well worth the effort. "I received your CDs yesterday. Thanks. The quality is perfect. The main reason these CD's are so valuable to me is because my father has a very special interest in this wonderful material. The CDs are a special gift to him.You probably don't know this, but these particular recordings were prohibited in the Second World War here in the Netherlands. All British and American music was prohibited by the Germans. Even Classical music from Jewish composers (e.g. Offenbach) was prohibited to have or even to listen to. If caught by the Germans one could risk his life for that. People were sent to labour camps in Germany (e.g. Krupps) or were held in prison. You didn't need to be Jewish to get imprisoned or killed. My father lived for several years in the Anne Frankhouse (Prinsengracht 263 Amsterdam) just before the war started. By the end of the war (1944), he was hungry all the time and there was nothing at all in Amsterdam... no food, no clothing, no shoes, no coals, no nothing. They were eating tulip bulbs because there was nothing else to eat. These records from the world beyond the Nazis were very valuable to my father. He listened in secrecy with friends to the music of Joe Daniels from England and Fats Waller from the United States. That's why these recordings mean so much to him. If you're a record collector, you'll love our FREE strobe disk. This handy tool will help you determine the proper speed for 78's and 33-1/3 LP's. Simply download the images, open them up in your favorite image editing program, set the resolution for 600 dots per inch, and print it out on the front and back side of a sheet of heavyweight ink jet paper. Drop it on your turntable, and you'll see at a glance if it's spinning at the right speed. Don't look too long though... You'll get doggone dizzy!To download the images, right click or click on the link and hold to bring up the popup menu. Select "Save This Link As" and save the file to your hard drive.
