Stone Mill

The main ingredients of the paint: water, binder, talc and pigment; are roughly mixed in the feeder pot in one gallon batches. Then the mixture is slowly fed into the opening at the top of the stationary stone. The ingredients gradually work their way between the stationary stone and the rotating stone below it, emerging at the outer edge of the stone disks. Here, a pallette knife cuts off the paint into a thin stream which is caught in a container located in front of the mill. This process disperses the ingredients uniformly within the paint, preventing pigment and binder separation.
