ABOUT VINTAGE INK & PAINT

Stephen Worth and Lew Stude became interested in animation art collecting more than fifteen years ago. Recognizing the need for skilled art restorers in this fast-growing field of interest, they teamed up to research and recreate the various ink & paint techniques used in the "golden age" of animation. By interviewing dozens of ex-studio artists, technicians, and chemists, Lew and Steve were finally able to piece together a working replica of the early days of the Disney Ink & Paint Department. In their studio in Burbank, California, they custom grind over forty different pigments utilizing the same stone mills and paint formulas that were used at the Disney Studios for over half a century.

But restoration is only part of the story. Vintage Ink & Paint has also worked with the estates of animation legends, like Les Clark (the first of Disney's "Nine Old Men"); Grim Natwick (the creator of Betty Boop and Snow White); and Mel Blanc (Warner Bros. voice actor); as well as acting as representative of animation maverick, Ralph Bakshi (Fritz the Cat, Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures). Vintage Ink & Paint assists private collectors by appraising their artwork, and helps them to find buyers for the pieces they want to sell. Steve and Lew have worked for many of the major studios, collectors, dealers and auction houses over the years, and have written for several collectors' journals.
